Dostoyevsky lost all his money and had to pawn his own clothes beg friends for loans. In one of those begging letters, went to a magazine editor where he asked for another advance for another unwritten novel that he had pitched. That creation, crime and punish ment, changed it all. The next chapter, not just in the book, but in his life, was an extraordinary piece of work in all world literature. It catapulted dostoyevky to the forefront of all the russian writers and and into the ranks of the world's greatest novelists.
