The House of Lords is an anachronism. It seems to go against the grain of just like liberal democratic society in so many different ways and yet it's still here. And if you kind of trace its evolution, I think, so you had Lord Salisbury in the, who's the third Marquess of Salisbury. He was a big figure within the current of like Tory pessimism. But anyway, cut to 1945, which is the first time that Labour win a working majority. And the Tories are terrified. So they strike a deal with Labour, where they say, instead of fighting you, we will pass every, all your manifesto promises as long as you agreed to let
