A Black Hole Nearly in Our Area
Jocelyn Block, who's based at Leusanne University Hospital and the findings were reported this week in nature. It's not so long since Black Hole's objects so dense that even light can't escape them were completely hypothetical. That changed 50 years ago when a bright astronomical x-ray source called Cygnus X1 was shown to be a normal star being devoured by a close by, but still unseen, Black Hole. Since then we've seen the amazing ring of light around the event horizon of the supermassive Black Hole at the centre of our galaxy.
