I Am the Trunk of the Vine, and God Is the Vine Dresser.

When Jesus says, i am the main vine, he is not cutting off the branch at all. He's actually lifting it up so that it no longer sits on a board. The word there is iro, and it's a word that's used elsewhere. It can be removed. But to cut off gives you the exact wrong implication.
