The third person narrator does use the present, the hist present tense, whereas esther is always writing from the past. And without us necessarily knowing it, t immediately tells us that esther will get through this, because sheis not writing it from the grave. We assumeyo. It's not papers discovered post mortem. But you do read it, i think, and you're so absorbed in it that all o that passes you by without you noticing.
