California and the Civil War in 1861

There were, California was the 31st state admitted to the United States. There was an even balance up until then between the free states and the slave states. So prior to the emission of California, there had been 15 free states in the union and 15 slave states in theunion. This was engineered. There will be one free state for every slave state. The slave states fought this, didn't they? They wanted other states who have made slaves free to balance it up when California came out. That's right. And so the fudge, if you will, that the Congress and Acts in 1850 is, it says that other territories carved out of the so-called Mexican session - Utah
