Stephen King said that routine in an intelligent man is a sign of ambition. For Alden, part of his day to day life involved discipline and he would write with military precision. So poets need to be prolific too. We can look at Chekhov and Ton Chekhov. His masterpieces can fit in a slim volume. He wrote a lot of forgettable works. Not only is it okay for you to write lackluster things, it is a requirement you need to in order to get to the good stuff. It's all about practice. All about drilling. And it's all about showing up time and time again.
