Nicaea 2 would see the debate between me and Gavin as this. You both agree on image veneration. You just disagree on which venerating acts are permissible. That is fundamentally important because we need to understand Nicaea 2 on its terms. And I think it's precisely when you look past the rhetoric and the triumphalist sounding rhetoric and anathemas, this is the faith of the apostles. They're willing to say sacred images came from the time they were part of the cult of the saints.
