Are We Going to Have a Progressive Era?

i'm a big a believer in that american politics moves in these really distinct cycles. The progressive era gave us some pretty important features of our modern life, like public high schools. And there are ways in which i think we are coming to terms with the fact that we kind of took a little holiday for about 30 or forty years from some important investments in the functioning of the country. We want to be strong, and that requires making some sacrifice for the next few years. But if you press people, you'd say, ye, i'd rather have a strong country than a weak one.
