The History of Egypt and the Pharaoh

By the time the old kingdom began around 26 50 b c, egyptian kingship was already at least 700 years old. It stretched back through the early dynastic rulers of the first and second dynasties over more than four centuries. Kings were their major point of reference, the overriding principle that structured society. The king was the prime mover in all these events, even the height of the flood waters. That was because he acted in close concert with the gods. And we can see one major difference between pharaohs of ancient Egypt and those who built pyramids today.
