The Importance of Collaboration in Editing

I feel like, as editors, we take such like pride in our work and we spend so much time putting together our first cut. And I have made a conscious effort to stop myself from doing that because it's not productive. You owe it to the people you're working with, especially if they're the director or the producer or the showrunner, to at least try their idea. It can be easy to just be like, that's not going to work. But if you don't at least try this thing, it might not open you up to this other solution, which is actually the right thing,. but you have to like take the detour to get there.
