The History of Neanderthal Tools
Early archaeologists knew the tools were old but they had no idea who made them or when. It took another couple of decades for scientists to put two and two together because Neanderthal bones and tools were usually found far apart from each other. Archaeologists did not excavate in the way that we do today. Back in the 18 and 1900s, archaeologists actually used dynamite to dig out and remove things quickly.
