The Bank of England's Role in Preventing Financial Crisis

The banking school thought that financial crises could be prevented or mitigated. The idea was popularized in a book written by the then editor of the economist called Walter Badgetts and became known as Badgetts Dicton. But this wasn't really what he was saying would prevent a crisis, says Andrew Keen. Instead there were several other policies you have to do - including changing how monetary policy is used. In 1847, 1850, 1766 interest rates hit record levels and new record was checked just before each of those crises.
