Diet Soda: A Possible Carcinogen?
The World Health Organization determined that Aspartame, the artificial sweetener used in so many of those drinks, is a possible carcinogen. Pepsi tried to replace aspartame with another sweetener in its diet version in response to some concerns about Aspartame's safety. The Food and Drug Administration criticized the WHO finding saying that a 150-pound person would need to drink more than a dozen cans of Diet Coke per day to exceed the sweetener's safety threshold.
