In 2 Samuel 23, a list of about 30 people is called the Mighty Men. They were important figures who support David's kingdom in this marriage, clan-based relationship. And so you can almost get a sense of this was his kingdom, the highlands itself. This goes right back to marriages that David's makes in the central hills.
