Acting words out or linking them to physical movements also helps you remember words. Reading aloud can reveal signs of dementia and stimulates parts of the brain that otherwise don't get stimulated, which is maybe a good way of preventing it. Listening to other people read to you also helps a lot. It's especially enjoyable if you're reading out some interesting texts and try to mix it up with non-fiction stuff too.
