With an optimistic crawl up, there is a broad notion that you need one of an honest participants for the roll up to be secure. The full story is that you rely on two different assumptions. One is that you have at least one honest validator who will catch the fraud and submit the fraud proof to Ethereum. The second one is that this fraud proof will actually be mined onthereum by miners.
