Our natural tendency for when we feel tired and awake is known as our chronotype. It seems that certain genes are more likely to make you an early riser or a late sleeper, a nyow. Just over 50% of your chronotype is down to lifestyle while the rest is genetic. A 2015 study looked at the sleeping patterns of pre-industrial societies in Tanzania, Bolivia and Namibia - they typically went to bed three hours after sundown.
