The optimization is the observation that in a particular line of code. every time the program hits that line, variables a and b happen to be strings. And so what we actually have to do is when we have the add integer operation we still have to check are the two arguments in fact integers. We applied some tricks to make those checks efficient and we know statistically that the outcome is almost always yes they were bothintegrated.
