As a young girl, I'd gone off to find a campsite toilet while my parents were busy sleeping on their side of the RV. My petrified seven-year-old brain had thought this to be the darkest place in existence. The darkness of that scratchy and moonless place was like a floodlight compared to the expanse of nothing that stretched before me now. A group of humanoid figures swimming through the blackness with an eerie, graceful synchronicity. There were three of them, all dawning the same gray overalls and the same orange plaid shirts.
