There's all this evidence that suggests that religious systems and faith beliefs can be supportive of mental health if people have a benevolent, loving conception of God. If we see God as angry or vengeful or wrathful, it actually can lead to poorer mental health outcomes. "It really is getting into the particulars of what we believe, what we believe about God," she says.
