CHAPTER

Nociceptas - Is There a Pain Mechanism?

Our bodies are covered in specialized nerves called nociceptas, which were discovered in 1905. They send signals as any other nerve would but they don't all go to our brain and this doesn't always activate a pain response. Painful stimuli actually have to pass a pain threshold, which then triggers our brain to respond appropriately. So now that we know how pain is sort of triggered in humans, we can possibly start applying that to animals too.
