Most authors of arthur romances assumed camelot was the same place as some other royal court or capital that they already knew about. But renaissance scholars, beginning in the 15 hundreds, were not satisfied with this because they found no particular evidence linking any of these towns with a dark age royal court. And perhaps this name camelot actually originated as a mis hearing of what some bards or minstrels were saying or singing as they recited this poem and hence this title.
