The Thera Eruption - A Major Disruption to Minowan Civilisation
Quakes were a somewhat regular occurrence during the Minowans history. Evidence of them recovering in around 1700 BC from an earlier disaster. Another disaster did occur though, the eruption of Mount Thera. This is supposedly one of the largest eruptions in known human history. Professor by the name of Spiriton Marinitos proposed that the Thera eruption had brought the Minoan civilization to an end. His theory saw the seismic activity leading up to, or after the eruption, destroying the palaces, while the tsunamis that would have been generated destroyed the naval power of the Minowan civilisation.
