Is There Still a Gap in Domestic Violence?
Before the project started, 24 % of cases investigated in iceland were taken on by prosecutors. Five years later, that was up to about 30%. Even this small increase was partly down to a new wider definition of domestic abuse. Critics say police still aren't making enough use of the law that allows them to push cases to trial even if victims won't give evidence. Another concern is that emotional abuse cases are especially tricky to get through the courts.
