The Self-Defense Paradigm

"I'm afraid that it just gets crushed and goes away," Mark says of a negative thought. "There's generally two opposite ways to crush any negative thought": One is through self-defense, the other is to defeat it by finding the truth in it." He asks his friend if he would repeat what he had written down so they could all understand each other better. "'My life cannot be labeled as a failure' I think I did. Big or small. Very, I think that huge.' 'That was self-defense.'"
