How Does GWAS Work in Migraine?
Migraine is a polygenetic disorder where multiple, often hundreds of genes play a role in about 50% of the contribution. The identification of individual risk genes in such a disease is very difficult and requires what we call genome-wide association studies (GWAS) Some specific genes could be identified, but mostly not yet. For migraine, more than a hundred disease loci have now been identified with only very little, very small contribution to disease risk.
