H3N8 has claimed a life in China, reminding us of the continual gene shuffle that flu viruses are capable of. virologist Richard Webby: "To me, it's going to be more like an on-off switch. Today it can't tomorrow it can and then it takes off" He says H5N1 is still poor at infecting humans but could make some changes which would reduce its capacity for severe disease.
