Utilitarianism Is the Borg
From the point of view of the Germans or the French, utilitarianism is the Borg. Collective consciousness which assimilates everything and turns it all into itself. How different is it really from German and French theories which are trying to subsume plurality under the management of the state? I wouldn't say that any one of these traditions has got it worse than the others. It just is constructed differently based on how political theory came about in the specific context. But they're all responding to the changes wrought by the modern cycle of war and trade to how we think about it.
