The Role of PBMs in the System
Over the last probably decade, but it could have gone back a little bit further, we've seen that health plans have started to buy PBMs. I think at first it was by necessity that they actually had a specialized business that they offered these services that could be hired out. But now I think the question is shouldn't there be more efficiencies available if you have the health plan and the PBM being more one entity? That's where we end up running into some of the criticisms when you think about PBM and their role in the system.
