What Happened to Qaddafi?
From 1995 to 2003, I was the chief CIA and defense intelligence asset covering the Iraq embassy and the Libyan embassy at the United Nations. When I started my contacts with Libya, Qaddafi had not traveled outside Libya in 20 years because he was so frightened. Both of these nations, Iraq and Libya, were pariahs, hostile, isolated, very much like North Korea. Terribly threatened and frightened of any outside force. And it was a very big deal when he went to visit first the president Ben Ali of Tunisia and he crossed over the border by 300 yards or more.
