Involuntary Celibate - What Is an Incel?
Incel stands for involuntary celibate. It's become an online subculture of primarily men who kind of form their sense of identity around their perceived inability to form sexual or romantic relationships. A significant minority of incels are very misogynistic and online, but one study found that just 10% of incel accounts are responsible for the vast majority of online hostility. There's some high-profile cases where individual incels have even gone on to kill people. But even globally worldwide, there's only ever been approximately 60 deaths attributable directly to incel violence.
