Someone went up the Pyrenees in Spain, mountain range, looked at the Alps. And there is a distance of 443 kilometers. The whole time I've been ignoring the refractive index of air. So actually light will curve around the surface of the earth. It's why when the sun sets, you actually see it set slightly later. Like it's already set but we can still see it.
