The History of Text Retrieval
In addition to the interest in language translation, there was also an interest in text retrieval. That really wasn't was a funny field because it was sort of somewhere in between library science and maybe a little bit of computer science ish stuff. But that later on segue very much into the very directly mathematical and calculus like area of control theory.
