Are There Other Possibilities Besides the Standard Physics Story?

Many people assume that consciousness is some form of information processing. I think we overestimate the similarity of the brain to a computer. It's not just electrical impulses going from neuron to neuron, there are chemicals washing around. So it could be something else. We tend to interpret things through the lens of how we understand ourselves.
