The church has accommodated our culture by devising a brand of christianity where taking up one's cross is optional or even unseemly. Many members of the church in the western world suppose they can best serve god by being as non confrontive to the world as possible. The atonement and substitution of christ, the personality of the devil, the miraculous element in scripture are coolly tossed overboard like lumber for keeping up with the modern thought of the worldat was j c ryell.
