Weirdness and a Flamboyant Anti-Communism
Nixon was such a flamboyant anti communist. That's how he built his career. I think, other than joe mc carthy, there were few others who were so identified with anti communism in congress than nixon. Once we had the relationship, we then deliberately used it to try to play the two side against each other and to put sit on ourselves so that we were always closer to each of them than they were to each other. They thought that if they could make it look as if we had an interest in them, it wouldn't restrain the soviet mitovine. And that's really what happened. Its clear now, on very practical turms.
