Timothy Stanley: Trust is central to the entire religious belief system. You can't be mormon if you don't accept that, and so it's powerful. It extends out to other members of the word who've been called to positions because he's that person as the imprimatur of the legitimacy and authority which comes down from god through the bishop. We'll come back to whether the leaders of the mormon church actually believe and ascribe to the rule of law, which means everyone must abide by all laws - even when they're wrong.
