Was Jesus Dead All Day on Holy Saturday and Then Rose on Sunday?

Philip says, was jesus dead all day on holy saturday and just waiting to come out on sunday? I'm not entirely sure that i understand what he has in mind with this question. We do have indications that jesus did things in the after life, like preaching the gospel to the dead,. redeeming the souls of the righteous till they could go to heaven. But whether he had any relaxed time in that period is unknowable.
