The Benefits of Prior Knowledge
The kids who could read well didn't do any better than the kids who knew a lot about the text. The idea is, oh, you know, the good readers already know everything. So they don't really even have to read it. That's not really where we should be trying to go. There are a ton of studies showing that reading comprehension certainly depends on knowledge.
