"There was something dark, darkly humorous about that," he says of the therapist's response. "They don't preach what they practice." Therapy denies ethical philosophy and monotheistic religions like Buddhism or Hinduism; it tells people to accept themselves as good for a reason. The therapy is at odds with its practitioners' belief you have value in an objective world: values are subjective.
