There comes a time and performance wise when if you needed the computer to do something as close to its theoretical possible speed as possible. To be at the level where you need to do massive optimization, you need to be dealing with a startup. The application I'm working on now, there's only about 30 people who actually use it but the volume is in the breadth of functionality.
