The European honey bee used by beekeepers has been selectively bred over a thousand years to be docile and tolerant of humans. But for the African bee, survival depends on striking at the slightest provocation and striking hard. In the United States, they have earned the name Killer Bees. A 62-year-old man in Texas died when his tractor disturbed a hive in an old pile of wood. He was stung over a thousand times.
