The Importance of Understanding Moral Status
Jeff McMahn: Most people aren't equipped to make the judgements about moral status. Embryos, fetuses, newborn infants and adults with certain cognitive impairments or radical deficits should not have confident intuitions of their moral status. People who think that they know the answers without having addressed these difficult issues in metaphysics and moral theory I think are making a mistake.
