Kyoto Hatori's Plan to Kill Others

Kyoto Hatori stabbed 17 people before the train finally emptied out. Instead of attacking more passengers, he simply sat down on one of the seats and sparked a cigarette. He told police his plan had been an elaborate method of taking his own life. But when he discovered that according to Japanese law, he would receive the death penalty if he murdered at least two of his fellow citizens, he knew he couldn't hurt himself.
