Ep. 109 Die Frau Ohne Schatten by Richard Strauss
Opera For Everyone
The Three Types of Settings in the Opera
The opera opens in the emperor's palace, which is an in-between world. It has characters who are themselves either touched by the divine semi-divine or a full fairy creature. And then you have the human world, which we'll be visiting soon. The last scene sees the Empress being told that she must cast a shadow within three days to keep her husband from turning into stone.
