The Americans were suspicious of any young man who was unemployed or sheltering at home doing nothing. In their logic, that meant he must be behind the attacks. My dad speaks English, so he tried to talk to the Americans and explained that no one from around here had done anything wrong. But they never used to listen. They could comprehend the words he was saying, but there was no understanding. It wasn't what they wanted to hear. When we look back, all our childhood memories are full of bombs and warplanes. All these scenes passed before my eyes when I think back to being a little kid. That war became, well, it just became our childhood.
