Is the Sabbath a Day of Rest?

The sabbath is the traditional practice of having a day of rest every seven days, in accordance with the creation narrative in genesis. In exodus, it was the seventh day of rest after the six days of creation, as we have already mentioned. But in the book of deuteronomy, the s Sabbath is said to commemorat the exodus from egypt and therefore the israelites must always provide a day of Rest for the entire community - slaves included.
