The Importance of Readability in ML and Backend Software Development

Most of the languages that people are touching these days, we're no longer worried about design patterns as much unless you get to a level of complexity. It takes a good programmer to write code that another human can understand. For rare code, performance trumps readability, something in a tight loop, maybe. But in general, I pound the hammer all the time when I'm coaching people or venturing developers, readable code is the most important thing.
