Lady Mary's Inoculation of Orphans
Lady mary's father in law arranged for an experiment to be done on prisoners at newgate prison. They were to become inoculated, and in exchange, not only would they be immune from smallpox, but they would also have their sentences cut short. Five of them caught it and survived. The sixth admitted he'd had it as a child, but wanted the deal. And then a second test was performed: This time they did it on 11 orphans yo. It was also successful. I mean, you know, yes, smallpox, i'm just saying like their choice was die one way or die the other way, and with a chance of freedom, you know.
